Stevia: The multi role fighter

Imagine you are the General of a Defence Force, and you are fighting a war against the OBESITY EPIDEMIC. You have tried all counter-offensive methods, such as physical exercise and healthy eating, to try and neutralize the resistance, but you are failing. You then sought assistance from the West to deploy cutting-edge technology, such as Keto Diets, but you have also failed. Then a scientist working in a small lab discovered the solution, which was the age-old, time-tested wonder yet sweet herb, Stevia that helped not only win the war but also help the citizens to be self-sufficient and lead a healthy prosperous life.
Stevia is a non-calorie sweetener that solves your sugar cravings. Setviol Glycosides are actually a form of alcohol, they are not well digested by the body. The human digestive tract does not produce the enzymes necessary to break the chemical bonds nor can digestive stomach acids break them bacteria have no effect on them therefore they do not provide no calories, no energy, no nutritional benefits but with lot of other health benefits. Intersitngly Human Craving has shown that consumption of Stevia extract did not affect feelings of hunger and appetite.

1) Antioxidant properties : Every time our metabolic process is under process it releases free radicals this leads to a cascade of events that could lead to a variety of diseases like cancer diabetes, and neurodegenerative diseases in addition to this the rapidly evolving lifestyle is contributing to the imbalance between production and elimination of free radicals. The phenolic compounds present in Stevia can neutralize free radicals and chelate transition metal ions. Studies have also shown that Stevia leaves can help prevent the formation of DNA breaks. It is also found to reduce lipoperoxidation and decrease hydroperoxide and protein carbonyl content in Cyprinus carpio.

2) Anti-cancer effects : Cancer is one of the deadliest diseases, creating havoc in the world it is also under the radar of the Stevia, phenolic compound in stevia has shown to reduce the viability of colon cancer cells and is on the verge of becoming a potential chemotherapeutic agent for cancer treatment. Surprisingly phenolic compounds are less toxic to normal cells even at higher doses. Studies have shown that phenolics in stevia could inhibit DNA synthesis and induce the death of cancer cells via the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway.

3) Stevia in the Treatment of Diabetes : for many years stevia has been used not only as a sweetener but also as a medication for diabetes and hyperglycemia in traditional medicine in Brazil and Paraguay, Studies have shown to increase insulin sensitivity specifically low amounts of stevioside improved the effect of insulin on glucose transport into skeletal muscle. In addition to this stevia also reduced total cholesterol, triglycerides and low-density lipo protein concentrations and increased high-density lipoprotein levels in the blood of experimental rats.

In essence, Stevia’s integration into the defense strategy against the obesity epidemic marked a paradigm shift, emphasizing the importance of tapping into the rich resources of nature to address contemporary health challenges effectively. The success of this approach highlighted the potential for traditional remedies to complement modern interventions in achieving comprehensive well-being for the nation.
